Serious health problems like increasing asthma rates among children in Detroit’s Black and Hispanic communities have been linked to what local organizations call environmental injustices as a result of low air quality and polluted neighborhoods.
“Detroit is a heavy industrial city that has a legacy of pollution through the auto industry and segregation practices like redlining, which has made it a poster child for environmental injustice,” said Catherine Diggs, the manager of programs and outreach at Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice.
SBP’s framework to induce environmental, social risk management

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is formulating a regulatory guidance with assistance from the World Bank s private sector arm to enhance knowledge and capacity of banks on environmental and social risk management, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The framework will offer guidance on how banks integrate climate change and other sustainability concerns into their risk management systems. Pakistan sustainable banking project, the first of its kind, is in progress and is the SBP’s important initiative around green finance.
“The SBP is now working with IFC on the Pakistan sustainable banking project,” a SBP’s spokesperson confirmed with The News.

Federal Labor is demanding the Morrison government “urgently explain” more than $30m in offsets it bought for the western Sydney airport, joining the Greens in calling for an investigation.
And the New South Wales opposition wants a wider inquiry into the management of the state’s environmental offsets scheme and tens of millions of dollars in offset credits purchased from properties linked to consultants whose company advised the government on development in western Sydney.
The NSW Greens have said they will also push for a parliamentary inquiry.

Guardian Australia revealed that an environmental consultant who holds interests in a property that made more than $40m selling conservation offsets to governments has interests in two other properties â Hampden Vale and Hardwicke â that have sold tens of millions of dollars more.
